Love. Yourself. First.

We live in a time where this concept can be so overlooked. Mental health and wellness is so often forgot about and other times when spoken about it has a heavy stigmatism associated with it. But why?

Taking care of your mental health is one of the most important areas of wellness. Without a positive voice in your head no state of wellness is complete. Sadly more people then we realize live in a state that is mentally problematic:

One in five American adults experienced a mental health issue.

One in 10 young people experienced a period of major depression.

One in 25 Americans lived with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression.

41,000 people a year take their lives to suicide in the United States.

Clearly this is a lot larger issue than we give credit. We spend so much time and money creating new medications, learning new procedures, but so little is focused on how to truly treat and help mental health.

So, here are a few ways your can love yourself:

1. If you or someone you know is suffering take the time to speak to someone. There are places with non-judgement ready to help.

2. Nourish your body. Take time to drink clean water and eat nourishing foods. Your body and mind are directly connected to what you consume.

3. Practice saying daily affirmations or mantras. Speaking of thinking positive words into existence have a profound effect in the mind both consciously and subconsciously.

4. Exercise. Not only will your physique change but healthy neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine are regulated by exercise.

These are just a couple methods you can add into your life. Whatever state you are in it’s important to take care of your mind. It’s important to love your being. Sometimes that isn’t easy. Many of times that can seem impossible. But Implementing certain aspects like these can help and ultimately know there are people out there willing to understand your situation and help.
