Your Homes Air Quality May be One of Your Top Environmental Dangers

Your homes air quality may be one of your top environmental dangers.

Most people think of their home as their safe place. But more often than not the air that we breath indoors is some of the most dangerous we are exposed to. But why?

On average people spend about 90% of their lives indoors today. That means they get little fresh air and constantly breathing in their indoor air. The EPA estimates indoor air on average is 5x more contaminated than fresh air. Some households even up to 100x. But what is causing this contamination?

Indoor air has little ability to filter out. This air typically is more stagnant. With that said our houses have a whole host of environmental dangers such as: mold, dust, pollens, animal debris, aerosols, paint fumes, household cleaners, etc. There are tons of chemicals being spread into our air that we are constantly breathing all day long.

So what do we do? First try to minimize the exposures. Use non-toxic paints and cleaners, clean dust and debris, have your house inspected for mold. But even then there still are particulates in the air.

Using a HEPA filter in your home is a must. This is the best way to purify your air. Only certified HEPA filters can remove up to 99.7% of particulates larger than 0.3 microns in size. Most of these filters are not the cheapest but these will ensure better air quality and ultimately health.
